Alma Pixel Co2 Laser Resurfacing
Alma PixelCo2 Laser Resurfacing is the Gold Standard of laser treatments. Co2 is performed to treat a wide range of skin concerns. This includes the ability to treat fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity.
Laser skin resurfacing can also treat uneven skin tones and textures, as well as sun-damaged skin acne and surgical scarring.
Ablative lasers work by removing the thin outer layer of skin (epidermis) and heating the underlying skin (dermis).
This stimulates the growth of new collagen fibres. As the outer layer of skin heals and regrows & the intercellular matrix strengthens and rebuilds, the treated area appears smoother and tighter.
What is Co2 Laser Resurfacing?
The amount of treatments a patient requires is determined during the consultation process. Based on the individuals skin concerns/conditions and fitzpatrick skin type generally 1-3 treatments are recommended. These treatments are performed at 6 weekly intervals.
How many treatments are required?
During your appointment, your skin is cleansed and disinfected. The areas of treatment will be determined and photographs of these areas will be taken. Topical Anaesthetic is then applied by a Registered Nurse to the skin for up to 30 minutes. Eye safety is applied and Co2 Laser is then performed on the treatment area. During the treatment you may feel a warm sensation. Immediately after the procedure a barrier cream is applied and your after care instructions are again explained.
What does the treatment involve?
How to prepare for a Co2 Treatment?
To prepare for a Co2 Resurfacing treatment and to achieve the best results, you are provided with a custom treatment plan.
Your treatment plan will ensure that your skin integrity is healthy before performing ablative laser, but also will assist in your recovery time & overall results.
No sun exposure to the treatment area for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to treatment.
The use of a tyrosinase inhibitors (found in Retinol & Vitamin C) are required for 4 weeks prior to treatment - this will minimise any risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and ensure that your cellular turnover is performing accordingly.
What is the aftercare for a Co2 treatment?
Immediately post treatment the skin will appear bronzed and feel warm.
Downtime will vary between each patient based their individual healing response (Prepare for 7-10 days downtime)
Over the course of 3-7 days the skin will continue through the healing phases which may include swelling, skin shedding, sensitivity, redness and itchiness. Redness may persist for 4-6 weeks post treatment.
Complimentary LED Light Therapy is performed within 7 days post treatment to assist in combatting signs of inflammation, reduce any risk of bacteria, and reduce the remainder of any downtime.
Limiting sun exposure is crucial during this time as your skin develops new collagen formations.
We recommend always wearing sun protective clothing and full spectrum SPF not only post treatment but ongoing.
A customised treatment plan and after care routine is provided to each patient which may include the use of barrier cream & antibacterial solution.
Laser Resurfacing results will begin to appear within the 6 weeks after your first treatment, however for full collagen remodelling we allow 3 months to see your final result.
All patients will experience results throughout different timeframes and this is dependant on many factors, including the concern that was treated, the skin type and the individuals healing time and cell turnover.
Results from Co2 Laser Resurfacing are permanent however as we continue to age and our collagen production lessens, it is still important to maintain good skin health & therefore retain your results.
